This guide will show you the steps on how to troubleshoot not getting push notifications on your iOS device
New to Chatway? Chatway is a powerful messaging app you can use in your business to communicate with your customers.
By default, Chatway will send a push notification right away, to all agents that have enabled push notifications. If you’re having issues with notifications, please follow the steps below.
1. Check your Chatway account settings
In Chatway each agent can choose their account settings, notifications included. That’s why the first thing to check is your account settings in the Chatway app for iOS.
You can test if it’s working by visiting your website and trying to send yourself a message, then see if you get the notification.
To do that, open the Chatway app on your iOS device and click on the hamburger icon at the top right corner. This will expand your account settings. Scroll down to “Notification settings” and check if you have enabled notifications when you’re online or offline, or both.
2. Notifications are not enabled
You need to ensure that notifications are enabled both on your Chatway account and in your device settings.
In the previous step we showed you how to check your Chatway account settings. To check the notifications settings on your iOS device, open Settings, then scroll until you find Chatway in your Apps section.
Click on the app and choose Notifications, then ensure the “Allow notifications” setting is enabled. From there as well you can choose whether or not to receive “alerts”, if you want the notifications to play a sound, show badges, show a preview, etc.
Don’t forget to check our easy visual guide on how to set the Chatway app notifications on iOS here.
3. Low battery mode
Please check if you have enabled the low battery mode on your device, because iOS tends to slow notification delivery to save on battery.
4. A network issue
Check and make sure you’re connected to either WiFi or mobile data in order to receive Chatway notifications.
Sometimes, a network issue might affect this, resulting in a notification delivery failure. If this is the case, restart your phone or your Chatway app.
5. Ensure the “Focus” mode is not enabled
If you have enabled the “Focus” mode on your iOS device – a feature that helps you reduce distractions and set boundaries – then you will likely not receive notifications. We’d recommend checking your custom “Focus” mode settings to rule this option out.
6. Are you using VPN or a proxy?
From experience we have found out that VPNs and proxies can impact the notification delivery. Please try disconnecting from your VPN/proxy and reboot your device to see if this helps.
Note: Users from China might have issues getting push notifications.
7. Try reinstalling the app
Finally, if none of this helps, we would recommend rebooting your device and deleting and reinstalling the Chatway app.
After you reinstall the app and open it for first time, it’ll ask you to allow Chatway to send you notifications. Tap “Allow” then test by sending a message to yourself again.
If after this you’re still having issues, please contact us and we’ll help you out.
