Adding an AI agent allows you to respond to visitors instantly, reduce response time, and provide support even when you’re offline. With the AI agent enabled, Chatway can automatically answer common questions, guide users through your services, and ensure no message goes unanswered.
You can add the Chatway AI agent even in the free plan, which can be used to answer your customers’ queries as long as you have AI credits left.
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the simple steps to set up and activate the AI agent in Chatway, so you can start delivering faster and more efficient customer support.
Let’s start!
Step 1: Open the AI section from your Chatway dashboard.

Step 2: Click the Create Your First AI Agent button.

Step 3: Click Start.

Step 4: Click Next to set up a single AI. In the Plus plan, you can create multiple AI agents and assign them to specific widget/s.

Step 5: You can customize your AI agent by changing its profile picture and name, as well as setting its operating hours, which are set to 24/7 by default.

Step 6: Add other instructions to your AI agent in the prompt field.

Step 7: You can edit the AI disclaimer text, then click Next.

Step 8: Choose what data sources you’d like to use; you can also use both.

Step 9: Enter the data source link and click Add. Make sure the link you enter is publicly accessible. It can be a link to your help guides, knowledge base, pricing page, or any page that contains the text information the AI needs to learn.

You can paste the link into the field, and the system will automatically extract all links directly connected to it.

Step 10: You can also add the links by uploading a CSV file. Make sure it has a URL column and multiple links are separated by commas or line breaks.

Step 11: In the Add your content page, you can insert text or Q&A as a data source for the AI to learn from and use it to answer your users’ questions.

Step 12: Once your AI agent setup is complete, you will be greeted with the 10 free AI credits. One credit will be used for every conversation handled by the AI agent. You can purchase credits anytime by clicking Add credits.

You can visit the Data Sources page, where you will see all the sources you have provided and you can rescan, add, remove or deactivate the source anytime.


Step 13: Test the widget to see how the AI agent works.

You have the option to assign the conversation to yourself and reassign it to the AI agent anytime.
