Chatway now includes new GDPR tools to help you collect consent and manage user data more easily.
Here’s what you can now do:
• Add a consent checkbox to your contact form to ask visitors for permission before collecting their personal details
• Add a link to your Privacy Policy or Terms and Conditions inside the consent message
• Use data retention controls to automatically delete contact info and chat history of inactive visitors, and permanently remove data of deleted contacts and agents after a set time.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set up the consent checkbox and use these compliance settings step by step.
How to Add the Consent Checkbox in Chatway Form
Note: If you’re new to collecting visitor’s information or haven’t set up basic fields like name, email, or phone number yet, we recommend starting with this guide first.
Step 1: Go to your “Widget Settings” and click under “Collect Visitor’s Info”.
Step 2: Click the “Add a field” button at the bottom and select “Consent checkbox”.
Step 3: You can add/edit your consent message here. You can also format the text using styles like bold, italic, and underlining.
Optionally, you can add a link to your Privacy Policy page by selecting the desired part of the text, clicking the link icon, entering the link, and pressing “Apply”.
If you mark the fields as “Required Field”, visitors will have check it to continue the chat.
Step 4: Don’t forget to click “Save” and “Publish” for the changes to take effect.
Depending on your customizations, the form may look like the image below:

Additional Compliance & User Data Retention Settings
Chatway also gives you more control over how long user data is kept.
You can find these options under “Privacy Settings” > “User Data Retention & Compliance Settings”.
For example, you can choose to automatically delete the contact details and chat history of visitors who haven’t come back to your website within 6, 9, 12 months, or never delete them.
You can do the same for deleted contacts and deleted agents by selecting when their data should be permanently removed from your system.
That’s it. Please feel free to reach out to our support team if you have any questions.
